CHICHICO

type: restaurant
location: Kyiv, Ukraine
status: built (2017)
architect: Oleg Volosovskiy

The CHICHICO restaurant is the embodiment of the temperamental flavor of Georgia in a modern design. Shelves with wine, huge barrels for storage and bottling, jugs on the ceiling, paintings by the Georgian artist Davyd Martiashvili, an open kitchen, and a tandoor. The goal of the interior is to reveal the concept of the establishment and unobtrusively emphasize it so that the guest has a picture of an ideal vacation with a bright Georgian taste.

Emphasis was placed on natural materials of massive sizes. The central role of the interior is given to the wall made of wooden dies with an ideal texture and crosses of different heights. With the help of side lighting, all these elements create a 3D effect.

Two areas with bar counters open to visitors also attract attention. One is set aside for kneading the dough, the other for baking cakes.

They are combined with the naturalness of table tops made of solid ash and treated exclusively with linseed oil to avoid chemicals getting into the baking. Therefore, upon entering the restaurant, the fragrant smell of freshly baked Georgian bread wafts over you.

The concept of designing the facades of bar counters was developed especially for this restaurant. On one of them, perfectly selected slices of wood were placed. Natural cracks were formed by drying, and the effect of burnt wood was created by setting fire and painting. The second bar looks like the roof of a house, paved with handmade tiles.

The chosen design’s unusualness and complexity consisted of constructing a multi-level ceiling in which all communications had to be carried out. To create it, wooden blocks were used, which were laid out in different planes.

A separate coziness in the atmosphere of the restaurant is created by the fireplace area. Stainless steel was used to reflect the light of natural candles.

Thanks to collaborative and joint work with the architect, it was possible to quickly and qualitatively implement the project, strictly adhering to the established deadlines.
